Today I learnt something 18 Aug 2022

“The pain you have might not be felt by others”.

I was on my train ride after work from KL Sentral heading to Penang as the plan is to go back and visit my aunt who’s currently in her 3rd trimester of pregnancy.

As the travelling time will take a few hours - 4 hours and 20 mins to be exact - it has taken my interest to rewatch one of my favourite movies - Mommy.

A story of a mother who’s struggling to be a mom to her son - Steve (Antoine Olivier Pilon) who has been carrying a character of an aggressive child, who will throw a tantrum when things are not going the way he wanted. Steve has lost his dad at a very young age.

His attitude of being rough towards his mom has been noticed by his late grandmother since he was young. He was diagnosed with ADHD and is easily triggered by any action from anyone including his mom.

One thing that opens a new perspective in my head is that how patient a mother can be and love wholeheartedly towards someone who might have hurt her but still will be able to through the process. The hope she has towards his son is so high that she wants him to live like other normal human beings. That actually hurt me deep inside my heart as it was something that rang a bell to me. Mother’s love towards their child/children.

I deeply know that Steve was not in the right state of mind to do what he had done the entire time. It was the emotion that he can’t control, the lack of experience or exposure that actually drives him the way he’s behaving. I have seen many that behaving the same way as Steve. In addition, with the lack of understanding of what he had gone through and currently facing.

Thus the reason why I said, the pain you have might not be felt by others is because you are the only person who really understands yourselves. Nobody can really describe what’s deep in your heart or what you are feeling. All they can say is just based on similar events with a different scenario.

As we know it best, the only best person can help is ourselves. I pray that everyone who’s currently facing such difficulties in their life will find a way out to get it resolved.
